Manual Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair
FOUR SPEED OVERDRIVE
1. Remove gear shift components, then drain fluid from transmission.
2. Disconnect propeller shaft at rear universal joint. Mark parts for reinstallation in same position, then carefully pull shaft yoke out of transmission housing.
3. Disconnect speedometer cable and back-up light switch.
4. Install engine lifting fixture and raise engine slightly.
5. Using a suitable jack, support transmission, then remove center crossmember.
6. Remove transmission to clutch housing bolts, then slide transmission rearward until drive pinion shaft clears clutch disc.
7. Lower transmission and remove from vehicle.
NEW PROCESS 4 SPEED
1. Remove transfer case, if equipped, as described under "Transfer Case, Replace."
2. Disconnect back-up light switch.
3. Install engine support fixture, then, using a suitable jack, support transmission and remove transmission crossmember.
4. Remove transmission to clutch housing attaching bolts.
5. Slide transmission rearward until drive pinion shaft clears clutch disc, then lower transmission and remove from vehicle.
