DISCHARGING

1. Ensure that all gauge manifold or charging station hand valves are closed.
2. Connect compound (low) side gauge hose to the low (suction) side service port, and the high pressure gauge hose to the high (discharge) side port. Refer to "Charging Valve Location" chart in the "A/C System Servicing" section for service port locations.
3. If charging station is being used, disconnect hose from vacuum pump inlet and ensure that vacuum valve is open.
4. Insert charging station vacuum hose or gauge manifold center hose into a suitable container that is vented to shop exhaust system.
5. If system is operational, set engine to run at fast idle and operate A/C system in maximum cooling position, with blower on high, for 10-15 minutes to return oil to compressor, then reduce idle and stop engine.
6. Slightly open low side control valve on manifold or charging station, and allow refrigerant to discharge slowly into container. Do not allow refrigerant to discharge rapidly. Too rapid purging will draw the system oil charge out with the refrigerant.
7. When system is nearly discharged, slightly open high side control valve on manifold to discharge remaining refrigerant from compressor and lines.
8. When system is completely discharged (gauges read zero), close high and low side control valves and measure amount of oil in discharge container.
9. If more than 1/2 ounce of refrigeration oil is trapped in container, perform "Oil Level Check" as outlined in the "A/C System Servicing" section. If addition of refrigeration oil is necessary, oil should be added prior to evacuating system.
