Timing Chain Cover Replacement


1. Disconnect battery cables, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove fan shroud, then disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses and remove radiator.
3. Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove lower splash shield.
4. Drain crankcase, then remove oil pan attaching bolts and oil pan.
5. Position No. 1 cylinder at top dead center compression stroke.
6. Remove fan, water pump pulley, alternator and crankshaft pulley.
7. Remove air cleaner, then detach spark plug wire at spark plugs and remove distributor.
8. Remove rocker arm cover, then remove two front cylinder head bolts and air cleaner vent tube attaching bolt.
9. Disconnect heater hose, then remove timing case cover attaching bolts and timing case cover.
10. Reverse procedure to install. Apply sealer to timing case cover to cylinder head mating surfaces. Also apply sealer to oil pan side of oil pan gasket and to the four timing case covers and rear seal case to cylinder block mating surfaces.
