SYMPTOM/CONDITION

A subject model vehicle fails a state "CO" emission idle inspection performed with transmission in park/neutral.

This service applies to subject model vehicles built prior to early November, 1984, and equipped with logic module part numbers 5226251 for Federal or 5226254 for California.

DIAGNOSIS/CORRECTION

If vehicle passes "CO" idle emissions test in drive gear, but fails in park/neutral, the logic module must be replaced with service module PN 5226741 Federal or PN 5226648 California.

If vehicle still fails when tested in drive or after module is replaced, further diagnosis is required to find cause and correction.

INFORMATION

The service logic modules are calibrated identical to the original modules except the service modules remain in closed loop fuel control in park/neutral.

The original modules allow open loop fuel control in park/neutral which, in some cases, causes excessive "CO" in state idle emission testing.

POLICY: Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty

TIME ALLOWANCE: Refer to existing Labor Operation Time Schedule for logic module replacement.
