Repair Procedure & System Preparation

REPAIR PROCEDURE

This repair procedure involves flushing the complete A/C system and installing new "H" valve, filter drier, and rear A/C plumbing.

NOTE:
SYSTEM SHOULD BE FULLY DISCHARGED FROM STEP 2 IN DIAGNOSIS SECTION ABOVE.

System Preparation







1. Remove "H" valve, saving gaskets, and hollow out as follows (refer to Figure 1).

a. Remove screw-in plug on end of valve.

b. Remove and discard plunger, check valve, and spring.

c. Using a 3/8" drill bit, drill out valve inlet, small opening, 1-1/4" deep for better refrigerant flow.

d. Reinstall screw-in plug.

2. Remove filter drier and discard.

3. Disconnect rear and liquid line at front line by "H" valve, and install Special Tool # 6008, plug, into front line fitting.

4. Disconnect rear suction line from front suction line at "H" valve, and install Special Tool # 6009, cap, on fitting.



5. With the vehicle raised on a hoist, remove and discard rear liquid line.

6. Remove rear suction line and cut-off approximately three feet forward of rear evaporator. (This length of hose will aid the flushing procedure of the rear evaporator.)



NOTE:
BEFORE FLUSHING COMPONENTS, READ THE DIRECTIONS ON THE FLUSHING COMPOUND CAN CAREFULLY FOR SAFE USE OF COMPOUND. RELEASE THE FLUSHING COMPOUND ONLY WITH THE CAN HELD UPSIDE DOWN. BE SURE TO WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES.
