Assembly

1. Install idle mixture screws and springs in body, ensuring that tapered portion is straight and smooth. Do not use screwdriver. Turn screws lightly against their seats with fingers. Turn both idle mixture screws one turn counterclockwise as a starting point.
2. Install fast idle cam on main body stub shaft with steps toward fast idle adjusting screw, then secure with ``E'' clip.
3. Install idle stop carburetor switch insulator, wire and brass contact, and roll pin to retain wire, if equipped.
4. Invert main body, place new gasket in position, place throttle body on main body and align and install attaching screws, torquing to 30 inch lbs.
5. Install accelerator pump discharge check ball and weight in discharge passage.
6. Check accelerator and seat as follows:
a. Fill fuel bowl with clean fuel.
b. Hold discharge check ball and weight down with small clean brass rod and operate pump plunger manually.
c. If check ball and seat are leaking, no resistance will be felt when moving plunger.
d. If valve is leaking, remove weight and stake ball using suitable drift punch. Be careful not to damage bore containing pump weight when staking ball.
e. Remove old ball after staking it and insert new ball.
f. Install weight and recheck for leaks.
7. Install new gaskets on venturi cluster and install cluster in position in main body, then install cluster screws and tighten securely.
8. Using tool C-4231 or equivalent, install mechanical and vacuum power valves, being careful not to damage power valve needles. Do not interchange positions of mechanical and vacuum power valves.
9. Install hinge pin in float assembly. Insert hinge through slot in float baffle with tabs on baffle pointing downward, then position assembly in hinge pin cradle in carburetor main body and install hinge pin retainer. A nitrophyl float can be checked for fuel absorption by lightly squeezing between fingers. If wetness appears on surface or float feels heavy, replace float assembly.
10. Place new gasket on fuel inlet fitting and install assembly in main body, tightening securely.
11. Adjust float level as described under ``Adjustments.''
12. Test freeness of choke mechanism in air horn. If choke sticks in bearing bores or appears to be gummed from deposits in air horn, clean thoroughly.
13. Install vacuum power piston spring and piston in cylinder, then place retaining ring over piston stem and carefully seat in place.
14. Compress piston. If piston binds or sticks, replace piston.
15. Install mechanical power valve push rod spring, push rod and ``E'' clip retainer, then push plastic cap onto push rod.
16. Install accelerator pump arm, internal pump lever and pump operating shaft, then the ``E'' clip.
17. Install accelerator pump drive spring, accelerator pump assembly, ``C'' link, washer and retaining clip, if equipped.
18. Assemble vent valve lever, spring and shaft, then install assembly into vent valve shaft cradle and install vent seal, if applicable.
19. Place new gasket on air horn and lower air horn straight down onto main body, guiding accelerator pump plunger into cylinder. Do not cut lip of plunger on sharp edge of cylinder.
20. Install attaching screws, torquing to 25 inch lbs. from center out.
21. Install fast idle connector link as follows:
a. Engage plain end in slot of fast idle cam from inside.
b. Engage other end of rod in choke lever.
c. With choke valve wide open, slide lever over choke shaft, aligning flats.
d. Install lock washer and nut, tightening securely.
22. Engage choke diaphragm link in slot in choke lever, then install choke diaphragm assembly and tighten securely.
23. Install bowl vent operating lever, pin and retainer into pin cradle.
24. Install spring and bowl vent cover plate.
25. Install accelerator pump link in inner hole and secure with cotter pin.
26. Install throttle position transducer, if equipped.
27. Install air cleaner bolt and retainer assembly.
