SYMPTOM/CONDITION
Hard starting when engine is hot. Black smoke out exhaust after a hot start.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
This repair replaces the choke element with one that has a different calibration. The choke control switch on the intake manifold is by-passed, allowing battery voltage to the choke heater.
1. Remove air cleaner.
2. Place cam follower on highest step of fast idle cam.

3. Drill out three choke cover retaining rivets, using a #21 (.159") drill. Only drill enough to remove rivet heads (Figure 1).
4. Remove choke cover and discard.
5. Drive out remainder of rivets from choke housing, using a suitable punch and small hammer.
6. Install the supplied choke cover and coil assembly in the choke housing. Make sure that the coil tang engages the inside coil pick-up lever and that the index notch is aligned.

7. Reinstall choke cover retainers and rivets using a suitable blind rivet tool (Figure 2).
8. If applicable, eliminate choke control switch on vehicles as follows:
Remove electrical leads from choke control switch. Install the supplied choke control switch jumper, PN 4362459, to the electrical leads removed from the choke control switch.

9. Install Authorized Modification Label, PN 4275086 (Figure 3).
