Disassembly

Fig. 3 Air horn screw locations:





1. Remove upper choke lever attaching screw and choke lever.
2. Remove choke rod lower lever inside float bowl casting. Remove rod.
3. Remove attaching screw from metering rod hanger, then the hanger and metering rods.
4. Using a small drift punch and hammer, drive roll pin inward until pump lever can be removed.
5. Remove choke vacuum hose from throttle body tube.
6. Remove air horn mounting screws and secondary air baffle deflector, Fig. 3.
7. Remove air horn from float bowl assembly.
8. If air horn is to be soaked in carburetor cleaner, remove accelerator pump plunger stem seal.
9. Invert air horn, then using a small screwdriver, remove staking holding seal retainer in place.
10. Remove air horn gasket.
11. Remove pump plunger and plunger spring from well.
12. Remove power piston assembly by depressing piston stem and allowing it to snap upward. This procedure may have to be repeated several times to free piston retainer. Do not use pliers on the metering rod hanger to remove the power piston. This will cause the hanger to separate from the piston.
13. Remove power piston spring from well. Do not remove metering rod adjustment screw.
14. Separate metering rods from power piston by disconnecting tension spring from top of each rod. Note position of tension spring for installation.
15. Remove plastic filler block float bowl.
16. Remove float assembly.
17. If necessary, remove primary main metering jets. Do not remove secondary metering jets.
18. Remove pump discharge check ball retainer. Invert bowl and catch check ball as it falls from the bowl.
19. Remove secondary air baffle, if necessary.
20. Remove pump well fill slot, if necessary.
21. Remove vacuum diaphragm hose and mounting screws, rotate diaphragm assembly to disconnect vacuum kick link from plunger head slot.
22. Remove fuel inlet nut, gasket, filter assembly and spring.
23. Remove three throttle body to float bowl attaching screws, then the throttle body assembly.
24. Remove and discard throttle body to bowl gasket.
25. Support carburetor assembly in a suitable working fixture.
26. Using a number 21 (.159 inch) drill bit, drill out three cover attaching rivets.
27. Remove choke cover by pulling it straight out.
28. Using a suitable punch and hammer, drive out remaining rivets from choke housing.
29. Remove choke mounting screw from inside choke housing, then slide choke assembly out of float bowl.
30. Remove secondary throttle valve lock out lever from float bowl.
31. Remove vacuum link from lever.
