Silent Shaft Chain and Timing Chain Installation
Fig. 46 Timing chain installation. 2600cc engines:
1. Rotate crankshaft to place No. 1 piston at top dead center, compression stroke.
2. Install camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket on timing chain. When the sprockets are installed, ensure the mating marks of the chain and sprockets are properly aligned. The mating marks on the sprockets are punched marks on the corresponding teeth. The marks on the chain are two plated links, Fig. 46.
3. Install camshaft sprocket on camshaft and align the keyway of the crankshaft sprocket with the key of the crankshaft, then install sprocket on crankshaft. Ensure timing marks are properly aligned.
Fig. 45 Counterbalance shaft drive system. 2600cc engine:
4. Install crankshaft sprocket ``B,'' Fig. 45, on the crankshaft.
Fig. 47 Counterbalance shaft drive chain & tensioner installation. 2600cc engines:
5. Install two counterbalance shaft sprockets ``B'' on chain ``B,'' aligning the mating marks. The mating marks on sprockets are punched marks on the corresponding teeth. The mating marks on the chain are three plated links, Fig. 47.
6. Install chain ``B'' on crankshaft sprocket, then the two counterbalance shaft sprockets ``B'' and tighten the lock bolts.
7. Install chain guides ``A,'' ``B'' and ``C,'' Fig. 47, and loosely install mounting bolts.
8. Tighten chain guides ``A'' and ``C'' mounting bolts.
9. Shake right and left sprockets ``B'' to collect chain slack at point ``P,'' Fig. 47. Adjust position of chain guide ``B'' so when the chain is pulled in direction of arrow ``Y,'' Fig. 47, the clearance between chain guide ``B'' and the links of chain ``B'' will be 0.04 - 0.14 inch. Tighten chain guide ``B'' mounting bolts.
10. Install timing case gasket and case.
11. Install oil screen and oil pan.
12. Install crankshaft pulley.
