Packages are now available to accommodate a customer who wishes to convert his low altitude vehicle for improved high altitude (over 4,000 feet above sea level) engine performance.
Vehicles with the low altitude package transferred to service in high altitude areas may exhibit undesirable driveability. However, the installation of a high altitude conversion package is voluntary and at the customer's expense.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
To eliminate the above altitude related conditions, the basic ignition timing must be advanced an additional 5~. The correct timing specifications are shown in Figure 1. On vehicles not so equipped, an altitude compensator must be installed to prevent an overrich condition from occurring.
1. Following the procedure as outlined in the service manual, reset basic timing to the specifications as indicated below:
FIGURE 2:
2. Attach altitude compensator (PN MD026708 for 2.0 liter, or PN MD026725 for 2.6 liter) to the brake reservoir as indicated in Figure 2.
3. Install vacuum hose harness, PN MD026213, between the altitude compensator and the carburetor air horn. Be sure the hoses are securely clamped to prevent vacuum leaks. Vacuum leaks may cause a lean fuel condition, which will result in severe driveability-problems.

4. Install Vehicle Emission Control Information Update Label, PN 4275084, as illustrated in Figure 3.
