Assembly
1. Install idle mixture screws and springs, ensuring tapered portions of screws are straight and smooth. Turn screws lightly against their seats, then 1 turn counterclockwise as a starting point.
2. Install fast idle cam on to main body stub shaft with steps of cam facing toward fast idle adjusting screw. Install retaining ``E'' clip.
3. Invert main body and place a new gasket into position. Place throttle body on to main body and align properly. Install and torque attaching screws to 30 inch lbs.
4. Install accelerator pump discharge check ball and weight into discharge passage. Check accelerator and seat prior to assembly by filling fuel bowl with clean fuel.
5. Using a small brass rod, hold discharge check ball and weight down and operate pump plunger by hand. If the check ball and seat are leaking, no resistance will be experienced when operating the plunger. If the valve is leaking, remove weight and stake the ball to avoid damaging the bore containing the pump weight. After staking the old ball, remove and replace with a new ball. Install weight and check for leaks.
6. Install new gaskets on to venturi cluster, then place cluster into position in main body. Install and tighten cluster attaching screws.
7. Install main metering jets.
8. Install vacuum and mechanical power valves. Ensure to install power valves in their proper locations. Mechanical valve on choke side and vacuum valve on throttle lever side.
9. Install hinge pin into float assembly. Insert hinge through slot in float baffle with tabs on baffle pointing downward. Position assembly in hinge pin cradle.
10. Place new gasket on to fuel inlet fitting and install assembly into main body.
11. Check float level.
12. On Dakota models, position new gasket on main body, install new O-ring on O2 feedback solenoid, lubricate lightly with suitable grease and carefully install solenoid into carburetor, tightening mounting screws securely.
13. On all models, check freeness of choke mechanism.
14. Except on Dakota models, proceed as follows:
a. Install vacuum power piston spring and piston into cylinder. Place retaining ring over piston stem and carefully seat into position.
b. Compress piston to ensure no binding exists. If piston sticks or binds, replace piston.
c. Install mechanical power valve push rod spring, push rod and ``E'' clip retainer.
d. Push plastic cap on to push rod assembly.
e. Install accelerator pump assembly through air horn and place cap nut into position.
f. Place new gasket on to air horn. Lower air horn on to main body, guiding accelerator pump plunger into its cylinder. During installation of plunger, do not cut lip of plunger on sharp edge of cylinder.
g. Install attaching screws and tighten to 25 inch lbs, working from the center outward.
h. With pump override spring retainer contacting boss on fuel bowl side of air horn, adjust cap nut until a clearance of .310 inch is obtained between the ECS housing surface and cap nut.
15. On Dakota models, proceed as follows:
a. Before installing vacuum piston assembly in bowl cover, ensure all staking is removed from retainer cover.
b. Install spring and piston in vacuum cylinder, seat the retainer and stake lightly with a suitable tool.
c. Compress piston to ensure no binding exists, replacing as necessary.
d. Install new accelerator pump plunger.
e. Lower air horn straight down on main body, guiding accelerator pump plunger into its cylinder and being careful not to cut lip of plunger on sharp edge of cylinder.
f. Ensure O2 feedback solenoid wire grommet is seated into the opening in the air horn assembly, then install attaching screws and torque to 25 inch lbs. from the center outward.
16. On all models, install accelerator pump arm, internal pump lever and pump operating shaft. Install ``E'' clip.
17. Engage plain end of fast idle connector link into fast idle cam slot. Engage other end of rod into choke lever. With choke valve wide open, slide lever over choke shaft. Install lock washer and nut.
18. Install accelerator pump operating link.
19. Engage choke diaphragm link into slot in choke lever. Install choke diaphragm assembly and secure with attaching screws.
20. Except on Dakota models, install electronic throttle control and the bowl vent assembly.
21. On Dakota models, install vacuum kicker.
22. On all models, install gasket and bowl vent cover plate.
23. Install accelerator pump link into hole and retain with cotter pin.
24. Install air cleaner attaching bolt and retainer assembly.
