SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Long engine crank times with black smoke coming from the exhaust following a hot engine shut down. This condition may occur if starting is attempted 10 to 45 minutes after engine shut down in all temperatures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

This repair involves installing a bolt to hold the vapor containment door open. This reduces the build up of fuel vapors inside the air cleaner.

1. While holding the vapor containment trap door open, drill a 1/4" hole through both the round dimple of the air cleaner snorkel and the trap door.

The vapor containment trap door is located in the air cleaner snorkel that has the heated air vacuum motor.

Install the supplied M6 x 1 bolt, PN 5240437, and nut, PN 6500274, through the drilled hole and secure the trap door to the top side of the air cleaner snorkel (Figure 1).

2. Type Authorized Modification Label, PN 4275086, as shown in Figure 2 and attach near existing VECI label.
