Air Bag Control Module: Description and Operation

The airbag system diagnostic module (ASDM) contains the safing module and energy reserve capacity. The ASDM monitors for system operation readiness. The ASDM will have sufficient energy stored to deploy the airbag up to 9.5 minutes after the battery is disconnected, if both front sensors are open. The ASDM contains on-board diagnostics, and will illuminate the AIRBAG warning light when a fault is detected.
