Removal

Distributor Assembly:





Distributor 4-Way Electrical Connector:




Distributor Cap:





1. Disconnect negative battery cable and distributor wiring harness connector.
2. Remove distributor cap retaining screws and remove cap.
3. Rotate the engine until rotor points toward intake plenum. Scribe a mark on plenum to indicate position of the rotor for reference when installing distributor.
4. Remove distributor hold down nut and remove distributor.

Installation

Note: If engine has been cranked with distributor removed, proceed to "FINDING TDC".

1. Position distributor in engine, with new O-ring properly seated on distributor. Carefully engage distributor drive with cam shaft drive, aligning rotor with scribed line on the intake plenum.

2. Install distributor cap, make sure all plug wires are seated securely in cap towers. Install hold down nut finger tight.

3. Connect distributor wiring and negative battery cable. Set ignition timing.


FINDING TDC

a. Rotate crankshaft until number one piston is at top of compression stroke.

Distributor Cap Terminal Routing:




b. Rotate distributor shaft until rotor points to number one terminal.
c. Lower distributor into opening, engaging distributor drive with drive on cam shaft. With distributor fully seated rotor should be under number one terminal. Return to step 2.
