Knock Sensor: Service and Repair

Detonation (Knock) Sensor Location:






The detonation (knock) sensor is located on a bracket under the intake manifold. The bracket is centrally mounted to detect knocking from both cylinder banks.

1. Removal of the sensor involves disassembly and removal of the air intake plenum and intake manifold.

Detonation (Knock) Sensor Removal/Replacement:






2. Using appropriate removal tool (MD998773), loosen detonation sensor and remove.
3. Install in reverse order making sure to torque sensor to specification. If not torqued to specification engine control can be affected.

Torque
14 - 18 ft.lbs. (20 - 25 Nm.)
