Vehicle Speed Sensor: Description and Operation

Vehicle Distance Sensor:

LOCATION

This sensor is located in the extension housing of the transfer case (4WD) or the extension housing of the transmission (2WD).


PURPOSE

The electronic controller uses this input signal, along with the Engine Speed Sensor and the Throttle Position Sensor's (TPS) signal to determine when to shift into or out of overdrive.

The sensor is also used to determine speed control DECELERATE, SET, ACCELERATE, minimum set speed (35 mph), and maximum set speed (85 mph).
