Brake Fluid: Service and Repair

The hydraulic assembly is equipped with a plastic fluid reservoir with a filter/strainer located in the filler neck of each reservoir section. The anti-lock brake system requires that the hydraulic accumulator be de-pressurized when checking the fluid level. Use the following procedure to check the hydraulic assembly fluid level.

1. With the ignition switch in the Off position de-pressurize system as outlined under "De-Pressurizing Hydraulic Accumulator" in the "System Service" section.
2. Clean both reservoir caps and area around reservoir prior to removing caps.
3. Remove caps and ensure fluid level is at the top of the white screen in front of filter/strainer.
4. Fill as needed, ensuring not to over fill reservoir, using Dot 3 brake fluid only.
5. Replace reservoir cap.
