DISCUSSION:
1993 All Wheel Drive models use the output speed sensor on the 41TE Four Speed Automatic Transaxle rather than the distance sensor, which was mounted on the power transfer unit case on previous models.
Some 1993 All Wheel Drive models were built with an earlier design power transfer unit. This unit can be identified by a plug in the area where the distance sensor was previously mounted (see illustration). This casting area does not exist on the later designed power transfer unit. If a replacement plug is needed on the earlier design unit, it will be necessary to install a distance sensor assembly, P/N 5227897, without a speedometer pinion. If needed, the "O" ring seal is P/N 5212152 and the retention screw and washer assembly is P/N 6501714.
