Windshield Washer Switch: Service and Repair

Note: The multi-function switch includes the turn signal, headlight beam select and windshield wiper switches. If any of these switches are found defective, the entire multi-function switch must be replaced.


1. Disarm airbag system as described under "Airbag System Disarming."
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. On models equipped with tilt steering, remove tilt lever.
4. On all models, remove upper and lower steering column covers.
5. Remove multi-function switch tamper proof mounting screws.
6. Pull switch away from column and loosen connector screw. Screw will remain in connector.
7. Remove connector from switch the switch from the vehicle.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque connector screw to 17 inch lbs.
b. Torque multi-function switch screws to 17 inch lbs.
c. Torque steering column cover screws to 17 inch lbs.
d. Rearm airbag system as described under "Airbag System Disarming."
