Fuel Filter: Service and Repair
Fuel Filter Location 3.9/5.2L Trucks:
WARNING: The fuel system is under constant pressure, even when the engine is OFF. Always release fuel pressure before servicing any fuel system component.
REMOVAL
1. Release fuel system pressure. Service and Repair
2. Disconnect negative battery cable.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Loosen inlet and outlet hose clamps. Use an appropriate shop towel to absorb any leakage, and remove hoses. Discard used clamps.
5. Remove filter mounting screw, and remove filter.
INSTALLATION
1. Install filter on frame rail, and torque bolt to 75 in-lbs (8 Nm).
2. Install hoses and new clamps torque to 1 Nm (10 in-lbs).
3. Lower vehicle.
4. Connect battery cable.
5. Using scan tool, place ignition switch in "RUN" position and use Actuate Output Test "Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay", to activate fuel pump and pressurize system.
NOTE: ASD and fuel pump relays remain energized for 7 minutes during the following test, unless the test is stopped or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position.
