Alternator: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then attach a suitable socket and wrench to automatic tensioner pulley mounting bolt.2. Rotate tensioner assembly clockwise (as viewed from front) until belt tension is relieved, then remove belt from idler pulley.
3. Remove belt, then the lower alternator mounting bolt and nut from vehicle.
4. Remove upper alternator mounting bolt, then the alternator.
5. Remove B+ terminal nut, two field terminal nuts, ground and wire harness hold-down nuts, then the wire connectors.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque ground terminal, B+ terminal and wire harness hold down nuts to 5-7.5 ft-lbs and field terminal nuts to 20-30 in-lbs
b. Torque alternator mounting bolts to 30 ft-lbs
c. Refer to "Serpentine Drive Belt" in appropriate engine section for belt installation procedure and routing specifications.
