Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Distributor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect pick-up lead wire at wiring harness, then remove splash shield retaining screws and shield.
2. Remove distributor cap, then rotate crankshaft until distributor rotor is pointing toward cylinder block.
3. Remove distributor hold-down screw, then carefully remove distributor from engine. After distributor is removed, engine should not be cranked. If engine is cranked, it will be necessary to establish proper relationship between distributor shaft and No. 1 piston Top Dead Center (TDC).

INSTALLATION
1. Install new O-ring on distributor, then install distributor in engine.
2. Carefully align distributor drive with auxiliary shaft drive, ensuring rotor is pointing toward cylinder block, as when removed. When properly aligned rotor will be under number one cap tower.
3. Install distributor cap with all high tension wires connected and hold-down clamp screw finger tight.
4. Install splash shield and connect pick-up lead wire at wiring harness.
5. Set ignition timing to specification.
