Brake Pad: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies.

3. Remove two caliper-to-knuckle attaching bolts, then remove caliper by sliding away from adapter and lifting off rotor. Support caliper firmly to prevent weight of caliper from damaging flexible hose.
4. Remove outboard brake pad from caliper adapter.
5. Remove disc brake rotor.
6. Remove inboard brake shoe assembly by sliding it out along bottom adapter abutment until brake shoe assembly loosens from anti-rattle clip.
7. Remove anti-rattle clip from top of adapter abutment.


INSTALLATION
1. Check piston seal for leaks and for ruptures in piston dust boot. Replace all seals, boots or bushings as necessary.
2. Lubricate adapter ways with a liberal amount of multipurpose lubricant.
3. Install anti-rattle on upper abutment of caliper mounting adapter.
4. Install inboard disc brake pad, then disc brake rotor.
5. Install outboard disc brake pad, then lower caliper onto disc brake pads.
6. Install caliper mounting bolts, then tighten to specifications.
7. Install tire and wheel assemblies.
