Repair Procedure
This bulletin involves installing a jumper harness overlay into the existing instrument panel wiring harness.1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
2. Loosen the bolt connecting the instrument panel wiring harness connector to the headlamp wiring harness (bulkhead connector) (Figure 1).
3. Remove the instrument panel wiring harness connector from the bracket.
4. Remove the white wiring harness cover from the back side of the connector.
5. Disengage the yellow wire terminal lock from the instrument panel connector by prying at the release tabs. The release tab locations are identified by indentations on the side of the connector (Figure 2).
CAUTION:
THE YELLOW WIRE TERMINAL LOCK DOES NOT COMPLETELY PULL OUT OF THE CONNECTOR. THE YELLOW WIRE TERMINAL LOCK IS COMPLETELY DISENGAGED WHEN THE LOCK IS PULLED OUT OF THE CONNECTOR BODY APPROXIMATELY 1/8 IN.
6. Remove the L4 14VT/WT circuit from cavity 39 of the instrument panel connector (Figure 3).
7. Remove the L4 16VT/WT circuit from cavity 69 of the instrument panel connector (Figure 3).
8. Insert male terminal of jumper harness overlay p/n 05013862AA into cavity 39 of the instrument panel connector. Refer to Figure 4 for a wiring diagram showing jumper harness overlay installation.
9. Slide a piece of heat shrink tubing (supplied with jumper harness overlay p/n 05013862AA) over each of the female terminals.
10. Connect the large female terminal to the male terminal removed from cavity 39 of the instrument panel connector.
11. Connect the small female terminal to the male terminal removed from cavity 69 of the instrument panel connector.
12. Center the heat shrink tubing over the terminals. Heat and seal both sets of terminals.
13. Press the yellow wire terminal lock into the instrument panel connector. Verify proper installation by ensuring the lock is flush with the outside of the connector (Figure 5).
14. Install the white cover onto the instrument panel connector.
15. Install the instrument panel connector into the connector bracket and secure the connector halves with the attaching bolt.
16. Connect the battery negative cable and reset the clock on the radio.
17. Activate the panic feature to verify the repair.
