Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

Heat Shield:

Crankshaft Position Sensor:

A heat shield covers the Crankshaft Position Sensor. The sensor is located in the middle of the right side of the cylinder block, just above the oil pan.

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect electrical connector from Crankshaft Position Sensor.
2. Remove sensor mounting bolt.
3. Remove the heat shield.
4. Pull sensor out engine block. Do not pull on the sensor lead. The sensor has an O-ring seal which may make removal difficult. A light tap to top of sensor may ease removal.

INSTALLATION
1. Apply a couple drops of clean engine oil to the O-ring seal.
2. Slide the sensor into the side of the engine block.
3. Install heat shield on sensor.
4. Install and tighten the mounting bolt to 23 Nm (200 in. lbs.) torque.
5. Connect the electrical connector to the sensor.
