Water On Carpet Or Water in HVAC Housing
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves cutting the drain tube flush to the body opening.
MODELS:
2007-2011 (KA) Nitro
2008-2011 (KK) Liberty
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before April 1, 2011 (MDH 0401XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience water on the carpet or hear a sloshing sound coming from the dash.
Technicians may also notice water in the HVAC housing or water marks in the HVAC housing when repairs are made to correct the issue.
This condition happens when water does not drain fast enough out the drain tube in the cowl. With the water puddling in the cowl area and the blower motor running it may draw water into the HVAC housing.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the above Customer experiences the symptom/condition perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Open hood.
2. Remove the cowl panel. Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT group 23 - Body > Exterior > Cover, Cowl Panel Removal.
3. Remove the two nuts (2) that secure the air inlet screen (1) to the cowl panel (3) (Fig 1).
4. Slide the air inlet screen inward to disengage the screen from the two retaining studs (4) and pull the screen straight up to remove it from the cowl (Fig 1).
5. Gain access to the drain tube (Fig 2).
NOTE:
Do not remove the drain tube completely.
6. Cut the drain tube flush with the plenum closure (Fig 2) and (Fig 3).
CAUTION:
Be sure not to scratch the metal housing on the cowl panel. If scratching occurs treat area with 3M(TM) Single Step Primer p/n 08681.
7. Position the air inlet screen (1) into the cowl panel (3) and fully engage the screen onto the two retaining studs (4) (Fig 1).
8. Install the air inlet screen onto the cowl panel and install the two retaining nuts (4). Tighten the nuts to 2.3 N.m (20 in.lbs.) (Fig. 1).
9. Install the cowl panel. Refer to the detailed procedures available in DealerCONNECT/TechCONNECT group 23 - Body > Exterior > Cover, Cowl Panel Install.
