Cleaning & Inspection

Use a suitable solvent to clean all parts except choke diaphragm, choke heater and plastic components. Clean external surfaces of these parts with clean cloth or soft brush. Shake dirt or other foreign matter from stem side of diaphragm. Compressed air may be used to remove loose dirt but should not be connected to the vacuum diaphragm fitting. If cleaning solvent recommends water as a rinse, use hot water, then, using compressed air, blow all traces of water from passages. Never use wire, drill or other mechanical means to clean jets.
When checking parts removed from carburetor, install new parts whenever old parts are questionable. Check for cracks, warpage, stripped screw threads, or damaged or marred mating surfaces. Casting passages must be free of restrictions. Install new castings as necessary. Check float assembly for damage or any condition that would impair operation. Replace choke and/or throttle valves if edges have been nicked or if protective plating has been removed. Ensure choke and throttle shafts are not bent or scored. Replace any broken or distorted springs. Replace all screws and lock washers that show signs of stripped threads or distortion.
