Steering: Service and Repair

1. Ensure fluid level and drive belt tension are correct, then connect a pressure gauge and shut-off valve between pump and steering gear with shut-off valve located between pressure gauge and steering gear.
2. Open shut-off valve, start engine and allow fluid to reach operating temperature.
3. Turn wheels from stop to stop and note pressure reading. If pressure is less than specified, close shut-off valve and note pressure. If pressure is still less than specified, then pump is faulty. If pressure is within specifications, the steering gear is defective. Refer to specifications chart below for proper pump pressure.
