Sliding Door Will
Not Unlatch

MODELS:
1992 - 1995 (B8) Colt Vista/Summit Wagon

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The sliding door may not open by either the inside or outside door handles.

DIAGNOSIS:

If the center pillar striker is not adjusted properly, excess opening effort may cause the latch linkage to disengage from their snaps and/or holders.

1. Remove the upper trim panel from the sliding door and peel the watershield down.

2. Inspect the linkage attaching points (Figure 1).

3. If the linkage attaching points are disconnected, perform the Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED:

1 MU481239 Rear Door Lock Holder

1 MU481259 Rear Door Locking Snap

1 MB574974 Striker Adjusting Shim

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair procedure involves replacing two clips that attach the latch linkage and adjusting the door if required.

1. Replace the rear door lock holder with P/N MU481239 and rear door locking snap with P/N MU481259 (Figure 1).

2. Operate the sliding door to determine if the unlatching effort is excessively high.

3. If the unlatching effort is high, adjust the center pillar side striker in an outward direction. An adjusting shim P/N MB574974 may be needed to reduce the interference and operational force of the latch (Figure 1).

4. Confirm the proper operation of the door handles and lock system. Reinstall the watershield and upper trim panel.
