DRB II- Scan Tool:

PURPOSE
The DRB-II is a diagnostic read-out box designed by Chrysler to gain access to the on-board diagnostics that are found on Chrysler-built cars and trucks.

^ The DRB-II reads the system performance information that is stored in the vehicle system controllers.
^ The DRB-II displays the fault messages that have been stored in the various system controller memories.
^ The DRB-II allows the Technician to run tests of computer-controlled vehicle systems.
^ The DRB-II, along with the test instructions in these sections, leads the Technician through the diagnostic procedures.

Multi-Use Tester (Scan Tool):

Note: There are diagnostic read-out boxes available from other manufacturers that can be used on Chrysler vehicles (EXAMPLE Mitsubishi Multi-Use Tester). However, the diagnostic test procedures included in these sections were designed specifically for use with Chrysler's DRB-II diagnostic read-out box. It is assumed that the DRB-II will be used to perform the procedures.

OPERATION
The DRB-II operates by communicating with the controller for the vehicle system being tested.

To perform the diagnostic tests, a program cartridge must be inserted into the DRB-II. This cartridge serves a similar purpose for the DRB-II as a diskette does for a personal computer. It contains the diagnostic test program. It must be inserted into the DRB-II in order to perform the tests in these sections. In addition, a special adapter must be connected between the DRB-II and the vehicles diagnostic connector. The power supply cable is attached to the positive terminal of the battery.
