Fillpipe Restrictor: Description and Operation

Fill Pipe Restrictor:

LOCATION
The Fill Pipe Restrictor is located in the fuel filler tube.

PURPOSE
Prevents the use of leaded fuel, by not allowing the use of larger leaded service station filler nozzles. Using leaded fuels coats the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter with lead. The use of unleaded fuels is mandatory in all vehicles with catalytic converters.

OPERATION
The smaller fill pipe center opening prevents leaded fuel nozzles from be inserted.

Flapper also controls evaporation of fuel during the time the filler cap is removed.

INSPECTION
Use dowel gauge to check opening.

Look for; tampering, broken flapper, excessive wear etc..
