SRS Control Unit - Connector Simplification

NO: 08-13-95

GROUP: Body

DATE: Apr. 14, 1995

SUBJECT:
SRS - Electronic Control Unit, Connector Lock Change

MODELS:

1994 - 1995 (B7) Stealth
1994 - 1995 (B8) Colt Vista/Summit Wagon
1994 - 1995 (B9) Colt/Summit

DISCUSSION:

SRS Module Connector Lock:

To simplify unlocking the SRS - Electronic Control Unit Connector, a change was made to the lock lever. A groove was added to make the lock spring visible, along with an arrow that shows the direction of lock spring operation (Figure 1). The old design (Figure 2) works the same way. The change was made to make the procedure simpler. Improper unlatching methods will damage the lock mechanism. Damage to this lock mechanism will require ECU replacement.

Following are the proper steps to unlatch the mechanism:

SRS Module Connector Unlatching:

1. Using a flat blade screwdriver, push the lock spring in toward the control unit. Once the spring is pushed in far enough, the lock lever will unlatch and move in an upward direction (Figure 3).

NOTE:
FIGURE 2 SHOWS THE OLD STYLE LOCK LEVER. THE LOCK SPRING MUST BE PUSHED IN TO UNLATCH THE LEVER. SCREWDRIVER ORIENTATION MAKES THIS PROCEDURE LESS OBVIOUS.
