CODE NAME
LR inadequate element volume: LR, 2.4, OD

CODE DESCRIPTION
Technical Description
The volumes of the transmission fluid needed to apply the friction elements are continuously monitored and learned for adaptive controls. As friction material wears, the volume of fluid needed to apply the element increases. The following are typical clutch volumes (the clutches may be damaged if the volumes are greater than the volumes shown below):

LR: 35-85 OD: 75-150 2-4: 20-77 UD: 24-70
Certain transmission mechanical problems (such as broken return springs, out of position snap rings, clutch pack clearance(s) out of spec, other misassembly, etc) can cause near-zero learned volumes resulting in setting the appropriate code.

Check Area/Set Condition:
For code No. 60
When doing a 2-1 or 3-1 coast down shift. Transmission temperature between 21 and 49°C (70 and 120°F). The appropriate code is set in less than 1 second if the updated learned volume is below a threshold value.
For code No. 61
When doing a 1-2 shift. Transmission temperature above 43°C (110°F). The appropriate code is set in less than 1 second if the updated learned volume is below a threshold value.
For code No. 62
When doing a 2-3 shift. Transmission temperature above 27°C (80°F). The appropriate code is set in less than 1 second if the updated learned volume is below a threshold value.
- UD - When doing a 4-3 or 4-2 shift. Transmission temp. above 43°C (110°F). (does not set an inadequate volume code).

Transmission Effects
Normal operation with no limp-in mode.

PROBABLE CAUSE
- Clutch pack clearance out of spec.
- Snap ring out of position.
- Broken return spring.
- Hydraulic leak into clutch circuit with near-zero volume.
