Thermostatic Air Cleaner: Description and Operation
Fig. 8 - Air Cleaner & Thermostat:
A thermostatic air cleaner is provided to control the incoming air temperature to the carburetor. The air cleaner draws cold air directly from the engine compartment, and heated air through a hose connected to a shroud on the exhaust manifold. A blend door in the air cleaner is used to mix cold and heated air. The door is controlled by a wax pellet type thermostat, Fig. 8, which is calibrated to maintain a constant air temperature of 73-82 F.
