Timing Components: Service and Repair

STANDARD PROCEDURE - ENGINE TIMING VERIFICATION

1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the air cleaner body Air Cleaner Body - Removal.

3. Remove the upper timing belt cover .

4. Remove the accessory drive belt .

5. Remove the crankshaft vibration damper .

6. Remove the lower timing belt cover Engine Timing Cover(s) - Removal.

7. Remove the right engine mount insulator and right engine mount bracket .

8. Remove the ignition coil(s) .

9. Remove the cylinder head cover Cylinder Head Cover(s) - Removal.





10. Install the Camshaft Timing Template 2000004400 (1) to the rear of the camshaft.





11. Install the Crankshaft Timing Template 2000004500 (1) to the crankshaft pulley.

12. If the Crankshaft Timing Template does not align with the lower timing belt cover mounting boss, the camshaft timing is not correct. Proceed to the timing belt service procedures Timing Belt - Removal.
