Camshaft: Service and Repair

Fig. 26 Valve timing:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Drain cooling system and engine oil.
3. Remove radiator, valve lifters & front cover.
4. Disconnect outlet lines at fuel pump and position fuel pump aside.
5. Remove distributor.
6. Rotate crankshaft to align timing marks, Fig. 26.
7. Remove camshaft thrust plate screws and the camshaft using camshaft gear puller tool No. T82T-6256-A or equivalent. Use caution not to damage the camshaft lobes when removing camshaft.
8. Reverse procedure to install.
