Stall Speed Test

STALL TEST

CAUTION: Apply service and parking brakes while performing each stall test. After testing each range, move selector lever to Neutral and run engine for fifteen seconds to allow converter to cool.

1. Connect tachometer to engine.
2. Press accelerator pedal to floor, Wide Open Throttle (WOT) in each range. Note RPM reached in each range.

Stall Speed Specifications Chart:

3. Refer to the Stall Speed Specifications Chart, for stall speed specifications.

Stall Speed Diagnosis Chart:

4. If stall speed is above specified limits, refer to the Stall Speed Diagnosis Chart.
5. If stall speed is below specified limits, proceed as follows:
a. Check engine tune-up.
b. If engine is satisfactory, remove torque converter and check torque converter reactor one-way clutch for slippage.
