Under 8500 GVW

ASSEMBLE
1. Lubricate all parts with transmission oil, then position countershaft gear assembly in case.
2. Position idler gear assembly in case, then install idler shaft and shifter arm.

NOTE: Position idler shaft so that slot at rear will engage retainer.

3. Drive countershaft in through rear of case forcing dummy shaft out through front.

NOTE: Position countershaft so that slot at rear will engage retainer.

4. Install thrust washers as necessary to obtain countershaft endplay of 0.006-0.020 inch.
5. Install countershaft and idler shaft retainer.
6. Position oil baffle and input shaft pilot rollers so that baffle will not rub on bearing race, then position input shaft in case and install blocking ring.
7. Install output shaft assembly in case.
8. Using a suitable tool drive input shaft bearing onto shaft then install thickest select fit snap ring that will fit on bearing. Snap ring is available in thicknesses of, 0.117-0.119, 0.120-0.122, 0.123-0.125, and 0.127-0.129 inch. Install input shaft snap ring.
9. Install output shaft bearing.
10. Install input shaft bearing retainer without gasket and tighten bolts only enough to bottom retainer on bearing snap ring. Measure distance between retainer and case and select a gasket that will seal and also prevent endplay retainer and snap ring. Gaskets are available in thicknesses of, 0.008-0.011, 0.0135-0.0165, 0.018-0.022, and 0.0225-0.0275 inch. Install gasket and tighten bolts.
11. Position speedometer drive gear and spacer, then install output shaft bearings retainer and gasket.
12. Install brake drum then lubricate extension housing bushing, seal and U-joint flange with ball joint grease.
13. Install U-joint flange and tighten bolt.
