Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Exhaust System:





1. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
2. Disconnect the auxiliary air hoses at the air tube.
3. If necessary, remove the muffler support brackets then separate the muffler/exhaust assembly from the catalytic converter/Y-pipe assembly.
4. Remove the retaining screws from Y-pipe assembly at the exhaust manifolds and remove the converter/Y-pipe assembly from the vehicle.
5. Install the converter/Y-pipe assembly to the exhaust manifold and loosely tighten the fasteners.
6. Install the muffler/exhaust assembly to the converter/Y-pipe assembly. Align the exhaust then install the U-bolt and tighten to 35-40 lb. ft. (47-54 N-m).
7. If previously removed, install the exhaust support brackets.
8. Torque the Y-pipe to exhaust manifold bolts to 25-36 lb. ft. (34-49 N-m).
9. Reconnect the oxygen sensor and auxiliary air hoses.
