REMOVAL

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Drain fuel tank.

3. Remove skid plate (if equipped).

4. Disconnect fuel sending unit electrical connector.

5. Disconnect fuel filler and overflow hose at tank.

6. Position a suitable jack under tank.

7. Remove nuts and bolts and lower straps. Turn strap 30 degrees to remove strap if necessary.

8. Lower tank enough to gain access to fuel connections.

9. Disconnect vapor and vent hoses from vapor valve.

10. Disconnect fuel supply and and return lines.

11. Remove tank from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

1. Raise tank up under vehicle.

2. Reconnect fuel supply and return lines.

3. Connect vapor and vent hoses to vapor valve.

4. Reinstall straps and raise tank into position. Tighten nuts and bolts to 30-40 Nm (22-30 ft lb).

5. Connect filler and overflow hoses to tank. Tighten clamps to 3-4 Nm (27-35 in lb).

6. Connect sending unit electrical connector.

7. Reattach skid plate. Tighten to 16-24 Nm (12-18 ft lb).

8. Refill fuel tank and check for leaks.

9. Connect battery ground cable.
