Alternator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL







1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Remove the drive belt.







3. Remove the generator bracket bolts.
4. Disconnect ignition wire from the generator bracket.







5. Remove the (A) front generator bolts and the (B) generator.







6. Disconnect the generator electrical connections.
1. Disconnect the generator electrical connectors.
2. Remove the generator B+ nut and washer assembly.
3. Disconnect the battery positive cable.

INSTALLATION







1. Connect the generator electrical connections.
1. Connect the generator B+ cable.
2. Install the generator B+ nut and washer assembly.
3. Connect the generator electrical connectors.






2. Install the generator.
1. Position the generator.
2. Install the front generator bolts.







3. Install the generator bracket bolts finger tight, then torque to specifications.
4. Attach ignition wire to the generator bracket.
5. Install the drive belt.
6. Connect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
