Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Verify the customer concern by operating the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS).
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage:

Mechanical
^ Damaged ignition lock cylinder.
^ Damaged encoded ignition key.
^ A non-encoded ignition key being used.
^ A non-programmed encoded ignition key.

Electrical
^ Fuse(s).
^ Damaged wiring harness.
^ Loose or corroded connections.
^ Damaged ignition switch Damaged transceiver.

3. If the fault is not visually evident, determine the symptom and proceed to the system pre-check. Component Tests and General Diagnostics
