Draining and Filling

DRAIN
WARNING: DO NOT OPEN THE COOLING SYSTEM WHILE IT IS HOT OR WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.

CAUTION: Coolant must be recovered or disposed of properly.

NOTE: About 80% of coolant capacity can be drained with engine in vehicle.

1. Release the pressure in the cooling system by slowly turning the radiator cap one turn counterclockwise. When the pressure is released, remove the radiator cap.

2. Place a container below the radiator draincock (8115) and open the radiator draincock.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.

WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM MUST BE SHUT OFF PRIOR TO HOISTING, JACKING OR TOWING AN AIR SUSPENSION VEHICLE. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY TURNING OFF THE AIR SUSPENSION SWITCH LOCATED IN THE RH KICK PANEL AREA. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN UNEXPECTED INFLATION OR DEFLATION OF THE AIR SPRINGS WHICH MAY RESULT IN SHIFTING OF THE VEHICLE DURING THESE OPERATIONS.

4. Drain the cylinder block.
1. Place a container below the cylinder block drain plug.
2. Remove the cylinder block drain plug.

5. When the coolant is drained, install the cylinder block drain plug.

6. Close the radiator draincock when finished.
7. Lower the vehicle.

NOTE: If equipped with air suspension, reactivate the system by turning on the air suspension switch.

FILL

1. Add the proper coolant mixture to the radiator coolant recovery reservoir.
2. Install the radiator cap.

3. Move the temperature blend selector to the full warm position.
4. Run the engine until it reaches operating temperature.

5. Add the proper coolant mixture to the radiator coolant recovery reservoir until the coolant level is between the "COOLANT FILL LEVEL" marks.
6. Turn off the engine and allow the cooling system to cool.
7. Repeat steps 1 through 7 until radiator coolant recovery reservoir level is OK.
