Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Vehicle Preparation

1. The inlet air temperature (or ambient air temperature) for all vehicle applications must be between 4-38°C (40-100°F) to initiate the OBD II Drive Cycle. Check the IAT PID on the scan tool.
2. Warm the vehicle up to at least an engine coolant temperature of 54°C (130°F). However, a cold start [ECT is less than 38°C (100°F)] is recommended on the Escort/Tracer when verifying a repair on the Evaporative Emission Purge Flow system. Check the ECT PID on the scan tool.
3. Attach a scan tool (if available) and access the On-Board Readiness Menu. The scan tool will send out a three-pulse beep when all the monitors have completed and the code P1000 is erased.
4. Retrieve Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) on the scan tool.
5. Perform a PCM Reset by depressing the CLEAR button on the scan tool. Leave the key on and then proceed with the OBD II Drive Cycle.
