Steering Column Switches
Component Locations:
The multi-function switch is mounted to the LH side of the steering column and controls the following:
- Turn signal.
- Windshield wiper/washer control.
- Headlamp dimmer/flash-to-pass/hazard.
The ignition switch is mounted on the underside of the steering column and is activated by rotating the key lock cylinder on the steering column tube.
The key-in-ignition switch terminal is part of the key lock cylinder.
The shift interlock system prevents movement of the gearshift lever from the PARK position with the ignition switch placed in the RUN position until the brake pedal is actuated or until vehicle electrical power is interrupted. The shift lock actuator is part of the shift interlock system and is mounted at the base of the steering column tube. It engages the transmission shift selector position insert to lock the transmission column shift selector tube and gearshift lever.
The transmission control switch (TCS) and transmission control indicator lamp (TCIL) are located inside the end of the gearshift lever. Pushing the TCS will either disengage or engage the overdrive function of the transmission. When overdrive is disengaged, the TCIL will illuminate the word OFF. Each time the ignition switch is placed in the RUN position, the transmission will automatically provide overdrive operation regardless of TCS position the last time the vehicle was running.
