Brakes and Traction Control: Description and Operation

The significant features of the brake system are as follows:
- E-150, E-250 have rear drum brakes.
- E-350, E-450 is equipped with rear disc brakes.
- All Econoline vehicles have front disc brakes.
- The parking brake is foot-operated and, on the E-150, E-250 uses the rear drum brake system. E-350, uses a drum-in-hat brake system. The E-450 is equipped with a transmission-mounted parking brake.
- The brake hydraulic system is split front and rear at the brake master cylinder.
- The brake power assist is vacuum-operated on the E-150, E-250 and E-350. The E-450 is equipped with a Hydro-Boost power brake booster powered by the power steering pump.
- All vehicles are equipped with either a rear only (RABS) or a 4-wheel (4WABS) anti-lock brake system.
