Inspection and Verification

INSPECTION AND VERIFICATION

1. Verify the customer concern.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage. Refer to the following chart.

Visual Inspection Chart:

3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If no continuous DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures

5. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that the program card is correctly installed.
- check the connections to the vehicle.
- check the ignition switch position (must be in RUN position).
- check that liftgate latch is in the primary position (fully latched).

6. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool manual.
7. Carry out the DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
- SCP+, SCP- or UBP circuits = ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network).
- NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for power liftgate module, refer to Body Control Systems (Multifunction Electronic Control Module).
- SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record the power liftgate module continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs and carry out self-test diagnostics for the power liftgate module.

8. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, refer to Power Liftgate Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. [1][2]Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions
9. If DTCs are retrieved that are not found in the following Power Liftgate Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index, refer to the master Power Liftgate Module Diagnostics Trouble Code (DTC) index in Section Body control systems. [1][2]Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions
