AXLE - REAR AXLE - PROCEDURE TO SEPARATE
INBOARD CV JOINT HALFSHAFTS FROM
DIFFERENTIAL

FORD:
2003 EXPEDITION

LINCOLN:
2003 NAVIGATOR

ISSUE

Following current Workshop Manual procedures to separate the inboard CV joint halfshaft from the rear differential may not be possible on some 2003 Expedition/Navigator vehicles. This may be due to a machining issue on the side gear, which does not allow the circlip to compress, and precludes use of normal Workshop Manual procedures. This condition only affects vehicles built between 12/2/2002 and 2/17/2003 equipped with 9.75" ring gear axles and limited slip differentials (axle codes V523C or V527A).

ACTION

Perform the following procedures to separate the inboard CV joints from the rear axle differential side gears, if service is necessary, on a vehicle built between 12/2/02 and 2/17/03.
