Alternate Method For Removal Of CV-Joint Outer Races From Differential

NOTE
IF THE CHISEL BINDS AND THE CV-JOINT STUB SHAFT(S) FAILS TO SEPARATE FROM THE SIDE GEAR(S) USING AN AIR IMPACT GUN, PROCEED AS FOLLOWS.

CAUTION
REPLACE DIFFERENTIAL PINION SHAFT AND PINION SHAFT LOCK BOLT DURING REBUILD. SEE STEP 20 OF PREFERRED METHOD.





1. Remove differential pin ion shaft lock bolt and using a hammer and drift, carefully drive differential pinion shaft until chisel is free. Reinstall pinion shaft and lock bolt. Tighten bolt to specification (Figure 14).





2. Insert an Estwing E3 - 11 hammer (wedge side) between the differential pinion shaft and the button end of the CV-Joint Outer Race stub shaft as shown (Figure 15).








3. Strike Estwing hammerhead with soft face dead blow hammer to separate CV-Joint Outer Race stub shaft (circlip) from differential side gear (Figures 16 and 17).

4. Remove CV-Joint outer race from differential carrier.

5. Perform Steps 16-20 of Preferred Method Procedure to separate opposite CV-Joint Outer Race from differential side gear.
