A Caution About Trouble Code Numbering

On many vehicles, diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's) numbers may be shared between modules. Be sure you know which group of codes you have requested and the actual code name/number before looking for the related diagnostic chart.

EXAMPLE:
1998 Ford Expedition 5.4L
GEM Code B1342 = GEM Module Defective
ABS Code B1342 = Antilock Brake Control Module Failure

Also be aware that DTC's may be listed in different ways depending on what method of retrieval was used or even what brand of scan tool was used. All DTC's are listed in the manner that the OE manufacturer listed them using the OE scan tool. Your DTC name/number might be different than what is listed, yet still be valid.

EXAMPLE:
1997 Ford Taurus 3.0L
SRS Module B1932 = Driver side air bag high resistance or open
MIL Code 32 = Driver side air bag high resistance or open

Be aware of which module the codes are retrieved from, and proceed to appropriate letter code description.
